A Miracle Healer

For at least the last two hundred years comfrey has been one of the most popular and widely used herbs to restore and repair our body. Peoples from both east and west have faith in this plant as a miraculous healer. There are records of it being used by both the Greeks and Romans and by ancient eastern physicians. In days gone by it was held in such high esteem that it was believed that even wearing or even carrying comfrey would guard and protect you on a journey. So think of that the next time you slip some Sundari Comfrey Cleanser into you sponge bag before your next trip.

Comfrey is a large and vigorous plant that is well known in both Europe and Asia. It has thick, furry, dark green, oval shaped leaves and a delicate bell shaped pink, white or blue flower. The plants are long lived and the more the leaves are picked, the more they will keep coming back. It has a deep and vigorous root system that grows down into the subsoil where they reach and concentrate skin enhancing minerals. Could it have been that it was the robust character of this plant that drew the attention of our ancestors as they were discovering the healing powers of the natural world?

Its name is believed to come from Latin ‘confera’, meaning knitting together. Though famous for healing broken bones which is the why it is sometimes called “kitbone” it can assist in repairing and quickly renewing any tissues of the body. Traditionally, leaves or roots applied as a wash, poultice or ointment to ease bruising, sciatica, boils, rheumatism, neuralgia, varicose veins, bed sores, wounds, ulcers, insect bites, muscular pain, pulled tendons, shingles and many dermatological conditions.
